Fall Time Fun at Delphi Academy

Yesterday, I was asked to run out of the building to take some pictures of Ms. Alison's Beginner 1 class. Never knowing what to expect with those little guys, I was very surprised to find them playing in a massive pile of fall leaves! They would scoop them up then throw them high into the air, over and over as if each time was the first time they'd ever done it. It was all fun and games till they started throwing leaves at the camera! Here are a few photos from the event.

The Delphian School Opens 29th Annual Summer Camp

The Delphian School has opened the doors to its 29th annual summer camp and academic session, welcoming nearly 300 students from around the world. Students come from all over the United States, neighboring countries Canada and Mexico and as far away as Germany, Sweden, Saudi Arabia, Japan, Taiwan and Thailand. Students range in age from eight to eighteen, and come to learn the study methods developed by L. Ron Hubbard advance their academic or English studies, and just to have a good time.

Each day at The Delphian School’s summer camp is divided equally between academics and activities. The academic program is fully personalized and is addressed to each student’s needs or special interests. Classrooms are small, which allow for close personal attention from instructors, enabling students to move at a pace that results in full comprehension of what is being studied.

Afternoons are filled with activities such as horseback riding, tennis, golf, volleyball, swimming, basketball, art, music, ceramics and more. Weekends are mostly reserved for off-campus trips that include white-water rafting on Eastern Oregon’s Deschutes River and camping at beautiful Paulina Lake, located 25 miles south of Bend, Oregon. There is also a three-day trip to Seattle for sightseeing, boating and a visit to the Experience Music Project for a musical tour through five decades of rock’n’roll.

One ten-year-old Japanese student had this to say about how his summer at The Delphian School has been going: “I feel like I am more successful here. The reason why I am saying this is because I have choices of what I want to learn. At my school back in Japan I don’t have choices, but here I have a choice, and I like it.”

Paleontologist Visits Delphi

On Thursday, January 14, *Paleontologist, Paulette Morin, from the Fun with Science Programs visited Delphi and gave an interactive presentation on the world of fossils and dinosaurs, which included storytelling, learning how to find fossils and nearly a hundred fossils for the students to examine first-hand.

“I was amazed how big a dinosaur could be and how small their eggs were. I learned that dragonflies could be very big.” – Erica Wu

“I was amazed when the paleontologist said that she had a real egg with a real dinosaur baby in it.
The baby turned into stone. I learned a lot of things, and I saw a lot of fossils. It was a really cool trip.”

“I really liked it. I learned that the T-Rex only uses its arms for getting up. It’s also really cool that they’re bigger than a two-story building. My favorite part was when we touched the fossils.” – Max McDonald

Delphi Academy visits Washington DC

What a whirlwind trip! Amy's Form 5 class went to the Roosevelt, Jefferson and Lincoln Memorials. We stood in the exact spot from which Dr. King delivered his famous "I Have A Dream" speech. We visited all three branches of government and were in front of the White House while President Obama was meeting with the presidents of Afganistan and Pakistan! (And all of this isn't even the half of it!) In short, the class had many memorable experiences and gained first-hand knowledge of the US Capitol.

Form 5 wants to thank the Delphi community for helping to make our trip to Washington D.C. possible. The Penny Wars and other fundraising activities you gave your support to allowed my class to experience American history, government and culture through their own eyes.
