Yesterday I hopped onto a field trip with our Elementary and Middle School students. They were heading into Boston for High Tea at the Park Plaza Hotel to practice their manners and tea time etiquette.
The idea of bringing Elementary and Middle School students to a fancy hotel for tea, at first put me on the edge of my seat, but when I arrived and saw how well mannered our students were, I was very impressed!
They were all seated nicely with their napkins on their laps, using a fork and knife to eat a scones and finger sandwiches, paying attention to their hostess talking to them about the different teas they were drinking. Everyone of the students was so perfectly behaved and well mannered, I don't know who wouldn't have been impressed by this magnificent display!
The students were not only getting educated on the flavors of the teas they were drinking, but they were learning about their histories. The students got the opportunity to drink a cup of the same tea which was dumped into the harbor during the Boston Tea Party; they all found this very interesting.
The Hotel was beautiful and very welcoming to our students. The food was exquisite and the tea was divine!
Here are some fun shots I took while were were there.

Delphi Academy Annual Study Technology Work Shop
Every year our school hosts a Study Technology workshop, where we educate the Delphi parents and friends on the study method we use. This year's workshop went very well. The parents really enjoyed learning how to use the same tools their children are learning to use.
Here are some success stories from the parents who did our Study Technology Workshop this past weekend:
Here are some success stories from the parents who did our Study Technology Workshop this past weekend:
“This workshop was extremely informative and insightful. I was pleasantly surprised by the material and exercises presented. It taught me how to learn and apply what I’ve learned. I will continue to use this concept to teach my daughters as well as myself. I can use this throughout my persona and professional life.
“This certainly introduced me to the concept of ‘learning how to learn’ and ‘learning how to apply what I’ve learned.’”
-R.H.
“This whole experience was great. It gave me an insight on what my child is doing everyday and how she learns. The activities were very hard sometimes, but it gave me the opportunity to go back and understand what I was learning. I learned a lot about my own learning experience and I only wish I had learned differently when I was younger.
“This workshop has taught me a whole knew way of learning. Great experience!”
-H.D.

“My understanding of Delphi was more than I bargained for. I learned a whole lot today and I would definitely apply to teaching my children and helping them with any questions they ask me. I love this new way of learning and genuinely look forward to attending the next workshop.”

Edible Arrangments Visits Delphi
This past Friday Toya and Erica from Edible Arrangments, South Boston, came to visit our Delphi students to educate them on the importance of fruit in their diet. Students participated in an interactive seminar on some of the different types of fruits and what makes each one special. Students got to taste the different fruits and compare the differences and similarities between them. The Middle School students also made their own arrangement to bring home to their parents. To our surprise, Toya and Erica not only gave a marvelous educational presentation, but Erica came dressed as a grape, which all the students loved!
Toya and Erica did a wonderful job, and we would like to extend a big "Thank you" from the students here at Delphi.

Delphi Academy visits Washington DC
What a whirlwind trip! Amy's Form 5 class went to the Roosevelt, Jefferson and Lincoln Memorials. We stood in the exact spot from which Dr. King delivered his famous "I Have A Dream" speech. We visited all three branches of government and were in front of the White House while President Obama was meeting with the presidents of Afganistan and Pakistan! (And all of this isn't even the half of it!) In short, the class had many memorable experiences and gained first-hand knowledge of the US Capitol.
Dear Delphi Parents and Students,
Form 5 wants to thank the Delphi community for helping to make our trip to Washington D.C. possible. The Penny Wars and other fundraising activities you gave your support to allowed my class to experience American history, government and culture through their own eyes. It was an experience they will never forget.
Sincerely,
Amy Arruda
Middle School

Delphi Student Wins Top Honors at Moscow Meet

This international meet included more than 150 of the most talented young rhythmic gymnasts representing numerous different countries. Erica was not intimidated by the competition and she competed impressively taking 3rd place for the floor and finishing 4th all around. Her beautiful expressive performances were noticed by the judges and she was awarded the coveted title of “Miss Grace”- an honorary prize of the championship.
States Erica, “I was very excited to compete in Moscow! All of the best rhythmic girls come from this country so I was a bit nervous. It was fun to meet girls from many different countries.”
Erica’s next goals are to compete well at the Regional meet and to defend her National (now as a level 5) title in May. Erica practices at the New England Sports Academy (NESA) and is coached by Varudhi Nahapetyan. Varduhi is a 3 time National Champion rhythmic gymnast from Armenia. She started NESA’s rhythmic gymnastics program 6 years ago and has built the program into one of the most successful programs in the country. In addition to Erica, Varduhi has also qualified numerous girls to Nationals and has produced 2 other National Champions in her short time in the USA.
Erica has been doing rhythmic gymnastics for almost 3 years. Erica was born in the United States, but her parents are from the Canton area of China (quite a coincidence that they now reside in Canton MA. Erica practices 3 hours a day, 5 times per week. When not participating in NESA’s rhythmic gymnastics program, Erica also practices Chinese dance and acrobatics. She is a third grader at Delphi Academy in Milton MA.

Established in 1979, Delphi Academy of Boston is one of many schools within a nationally renowned network of Delphi schools known for their innovative approach to learning. With annual standardized testing scores of two to three grade levels above the national average, and graduates going on to the finest high schools in New England, Delphi Academy prides itself on what has been called a breakthrough approach to preparing students for life.
How students are taught is what makes the Delphi Academy of Boston truly unique. Classrooms are not lecture halls. They are a whir of non-stop activity, in which each student is busily working, intent on study. With the aid of checksheets, the step-by-step study guide designed for each subject taught, teachers are free to circulate within the class.
Delphi Academy takes a different approach to learning with the know-how of the Study Technology (Study Tech), an educational philosophy and a practical approach to teaching and learning based on research and developments by American writer and educator L. Ron Hubbard.
Delphi Academy of Boston’s Mission and Philosophy
Give young people a rich academic background, a strong sense of ethics and a broad range of abilities to successfully launch them into life and the challenges ahead.
More broadly, help build a better world through effective education.
Our philosophy of education is simple. Students should master their basic tools very well––then learn to really use what they learn. Our teaching and study methods emphasize practical application––because only in meaningful use can one work out the proper value of the many pieces of knowledge encountered in an education. This approach keeps our students continually evaluating new information in relation to the real world. Their educations become something they build and own, not something piled onto them. In the end, we want to see our students maintain their individuality, while being self-motivated, confident, active and purposeful individuals who are capable of pursuing and reaching their chosen goals.
Jeff Rouelle, the Assistant Head of School and 17 year veteran employee of Delphi Academy Boston is presently overseeing the admissions, enrollment, marketing and public relations of the school.
